On 20 November 2018, Nyakundi Report notes that 68-year-old Gabre Lemita, a father of nine and grandfather of 12, posted 232 marks in the KCPE examination as a private candidate in Marsabit.
Lemita sat the test at the Moyale Township Adult Centre, where he took the exam alongside other private candidates. His result stood out because of his age and the determination behind his return to class.
He said he now hopes to move on to secondary school and eventually college, saying education remains his long-term goal.
In the same county, Mohammed Ali of Moyale Junior Academy emerged as the top pupil with 430 marks. Moyale Junior Academy was reported as the best-performing school in Marsabit, followed by Hudefya and Moyale Gateway Academy.
