On 20 November 2018, musician Akothee and blogger Robert Alai became the centre of another loud social media confrontation after an Instagram direct message from Alai triggered a public backlash.
The exchange began when Akothee questioned whether the account that had contacted her was really Alai, saying he had previously insulted her and her family. She then posted a long response aimed at him, accusing him of trying to push business on her and mocking his conduct online.
In the post, Akothee wrote: “Family, Help me know if this is the same Robert Alai who has been calling me all sorts of names and insulting me including my family everywhere? Or this is a scammer???.”
She later added more insults in a separate message, including the line: “You actually look like a product of failed abortion.”
The dispute also touched on earlier claims Akothee said Alai had made about her wealth and her supporters. In her response, she rejected the suggestion that he had any authority over her or her work, and accused him of blackmailing people for his own benefit.
The online fight came only days after Akothee had clashed with another controversial blogger, Nyakundi, in a separate social media row. The source did not include a response from Alai.
