On 20 November 2018, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino surfaced in a new song by Nairobi-based Kisumu artist Nebulazz, a track titled Dis Gal (Kanini Kega) that leans on playful references to women’s looks and personality.
The title uses the Kikuyu phrase “Kanini Kega,” which means small and nice. It is also the name of Kieni MP Kanini Kega, though the song’s attention was clearly drawn by the inclusion of Babu Owino’s name and voice.
Babu does not sing on the record. Instead, the song includes a few short sound bites from him, during which he uses polished English phrases while Nebulazz carries the rest of the track.
According to Babu, the collaboration was meant to present his fun side and help push the work of the upcoming artiste. He also said the song was not aimed at his parliamentary counterpart, whose birth name is Simon Mathenge.
The track was shared with a YouTube embed, allowing listeners to hear the song directly.
