On November 20, 2018, Kenyan rapper and entrepreneur King Kaka said he was preparing to unveil his fifth album, Eastlando Royalty, at Uhuru Gardens on November 30. The Kaka Empire founder said the project is rooted in his experience growing up in Eastlands, Nairobi.
He described the title as a statement about rising from a place many people overlook. “Eastlands is my hood, it has been royal to me,” Kaka told Word Is. He added that the phrase Eastlando Royalty may sound unusual at first, but he wanted listeners to understand that people can come from difficult surroundings and still succeed.
The album will carry 18 tracks on the physical copy and 22 tracks on digital platforms. Kaka also said he wants the launch to be more than a standard concert, telling fans to expect “a different not ordinarily concert” and saying he hopes they leave with an experience rather than just an attendance record.
In the run-up to the release, he has been holding listening parties across Kenya since October 30 in Kitale. The tour later wrapped up in Machakos last week, where he reportedly received strong feedback from fans.
The launch is expected to be backed by several brands, including the Songa Music App by Safaricom and Coca-Cola.
