On July 18, 2019, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua took swift action to protect the health and well-being of his constituents by ordering the closure of meat sections in Naivas supermarkets in the county.

The decision came after lab analysis of meat samples taken from Naivas supermarket at Gateway Mall in Mavoko revealed the presence of 3,286 milligrams of an additive that should not be used in meat.

According to Dr. Mutua, the meat sections will remain closed until public health officers give the okay to reopen.

Naivas supermarkets in Machakos County have been ordered to close their meat sections after excess chemical additives were found on the meat.
