Northrop Grumman Corp has been awarded a $490 million U.S. defense contract connected to the sale of Global Hawk unmanned surveillance aircraft to Japan, the Pentagon said on Monday, November 20, 2018.
The aircraft involved are part of the Global Hawk program, a high-altitude unmanned surveillance platform used for reconnaissance missions. Reuters’ file photo from March 14, 2017, showed a U.S. Air Force maintainer walking into a hangar filled with RQ-4 Global Hawk aircraft at an Air Force base in the Arabian Gulf.
The contract adds to Northrop Grumman’s defense business and reflects continued U.S. military support for Japan’s surveillance capabilities. The Pentagon did not provide additional details in the brief notice.
The Reuters report carried the standard Trust Principles notice and identified Northrop Grumman by its stock symbol NOC.N.
