On 20 November 2018, Kisii County’s best KCPE performers were identified with strong marks and equally ambitious career plans, led by Dorothy Hadassah Ommedo, who scored 442 marks at Genesis Preparatory School in Kisii Central.
Dorothy said she wants to become a lawyer. Her strongest subjects were Maths, English and Kiswahili. Her parents, Vincent Omeddo and Deborah Omeddo, both work at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where Vincent is a surgeon and Deborah is a paediatrician.
Gloria Ogochi, who sat the exam at Imperial Academy, scored 435 marks. She said she hopes to join Alliance Girls High School before pursuing medicine at university.
“We had the best learning environment that enabled us to achieve the best result,” she said.
At Set Green Hill Academy, Felistus Mecheo scored 430 marks. She also wants to join Alliance Girls and later train as a gynaecologist, saying she hopes to help poor mothers who cannot afford proper maternal health services.
Felistus said: “I used to score good marks but wasn’t sure that I could make it to the top performers,” she said.
