Felix Kiptoo, the 14-year-old Keringet Boarding Primary candidate who sat his KCPE while hospitalized, has scored 342 marks. The result was celebrated by family, friends and teachers after he overcame a difficult medical ordeal.
The archive story was published on 2018-11-20. Kiptoo wrote the examination at Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru after abdominal pains forced him to theatre, where he underwent surgery before being moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the High Dependency Unit.
His recovery and exam performance drew attention because he completed the test while still under medical care. Kiptoo said his result reflected determination, hard work and support from his teachers.
“I was weak and in pain but my determination and God’s favour has seen me score above average marks,” said Kiptoo who is recuperating at home in Kuresoi.
He now hopes to join Tenwek Boys High School and later pursue engineering at university.
