On November 19, 2018, police said four suspected criminals were shot dead in Baraka area of Mowlem, Dandora, in an operation that targeted a gang accused of terrorising parts of Nairobi and nearby towns.
A police source identified the alleged ringleader only as Mutuku, saying he and his accomplices had evaded arrest for a long time. The source said the group had been linked to attacks in Mukuru, Kitengela, Kayole, Buruburu, Kasarani, Ruiru and Thika.
According to the same source, the men were killed by Ahmed Rashid, the officer widely known as Hessy. The gang had also been captured on CCTV several times during robberies, especially at M-Pesa shops.
The case was tied to earlier police action against another suspect, Brayo, who was arrested on October 17. Police said the youthful gangster was wanted over a string of robberies and murders in the city, including the killing of Corporal Martin Korir during the hijacking of a Neo Kenya bus on Thika Road on April 28.
Police also said four gangsters believed to have taken part in that murder were killed on May 12 in Dandora Phase 2, and that Flying Squad officers recovered a gun belonging to the slain officer.
