In a Citizen TV interview published on July 25, 2018, Isaac Ruto took a hard line on the Mau eviction debate, saying the central question was not forest conservation but whether anyone was living inside the forest.
“The issue that is at stake at the moment is not protecting the forest- if there is anyone living inside the forest, then they should be removed!” Ruto said during the discussion aired by Citizen TV.
The comments came amid a wider public argument over the Mau Forest evictions, with leaders split over how the government should handle settlements inside the forest area. Ruto’s position was clear: people found living there should be moved out.
