On 11 June 2014, police in Murang’a were holding a man accused of stealing a goat after members of the public intercepted him and forced him to carry the animal.

The incident, captured in a short video clip, shows the suspect being taken to police custody after the public confrontation. The source says the man was a suspected goat thief and that he was made to bear the goat as he was escorted away.

The clip points to the kind of rough justice that sometimes follows livestock theft in rural areas, where residents often act before police fully take over the matter. In this case, the suspect ended up in the hands of officers in Murang’a after the public caught him.
