On June 29, 2019, Musalia Mudavadi, leader of Amani National Congress (ANC), warned that Deputy President William Ruto's allegations of an assassination plot could lead to bloody chaos in the country.
A mystery letter had accused several government officials of plotting to assassinate Ruto during meetings at Hotel La Mada, but the Deputy President had yet to file a formal complaint. Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti denied claims that he had approached Ruto to record a statement, stating he had not spoken to him.
Mudavadi urged the DCI to thoroughly investigate the claim and punish Ruto if it was found to be false. He emphasized that such allegations are dangerous and could divide Kenyans, leading to violence. Mudavadi reminded Ruto that Kenyans want peace and that nobody, regardless of status, should be spared if they are found to be causing violence.
Mudavadi also spoke about the war on corruption, telling President Uhuru Kenyatta not to relent as it has slowed economic growth. He called for those looting taxpayers' money to be arrested and prosecuted. Additionally, Mudavadi criticized Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga for suggesting that Parliament should create laws to end the Kenya Tea Development Agency's monopoly, stating that the agency properly serves at least 600,000 farmers.
Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua echoed Mudavadi's sentiments, warning that irresponsible statements from leaders could divide the nation. She emphasized that Kenyans want to live in peace and that leaders should prioritize the people's interests. Karua also discussed the health sector in Kirinyaga, describing it as being in a pathetic state and accusing Governor Anne Waiguru's administration of inefficiency.
