Award-winning gospel singer Daddy Owen has pledged to recognize a matatu crew that has been helping disabled people commute to and from work, after their story went viral on social media.
On June 29, 2019, Daddy Owen took to his social media accounts to announce that he would nominate the crew for the Malaika Awards, a charitable organization that he founded to support people with disabilities.
The Malaika Awards, which was established by Daddy Owen, aims to honor and recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the lives of people with disabilities. In 2015, the organization had already begun its work in supporting disabled individuals, and now Daddy Owen wants to use the platform to recognize the matatu crew's selfless act.
Daddy Owen expressed his admiration for the crew, saying
“These are our unsung heroes...looking for their contacts..anyone?… These are guys who should be nominated for Malaika Tribute Awards next year.. Thank you guys for caring for people living with disabilities..”
