Royal Media Services had a stellar performance at the 3rd annual Kuza Broadcasting Awards ceremony held in Nairobi on June 28, 2019, winning over 10 awards from the Communications Authority.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday, saw Royal Media Services Chairman S.K. Macharia feted with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his contributions to the media industry in Kenya.
According to CA Chairman Ngene Gituku, the awards are a testament to the tremendous efforts that have transformed the media industry in Kenya. Gituku stated,
I wish to appreciate the tremendous efforts that have transformed the media industry in Kenya to what it is now.
The company's leading brands, including Citizen TV, Inooro TV, Radio Citizen, and Inooro FM, were recognized for excellence in regulatory compliance, responsive broadcasting, and pursuit of socio-economic development.
Citizen TV was named the most trusted TV station for news, while Inooro TV received the bronze award in the same category. Radio Citizen was also recognized as the most trusted radio station for news, with Inooro FM receiving the bronze award.
The awards come just days after Citizen TV was announced as Kenya's most admired media brand, according to a continental-wide survey.
CA Director General Francis Wangusi noted that the KUZA Awards are an indication that Kenya is on the path to becoming a hub for information sharing within the next decade. Wangusi stated,
We are gearing up to compete effectively with new and emerging technologies like Over the Top technologies. We want our content to flourish everywhere across the world.
ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng emphasized the significant influence of broadcasting on society, language, culture, and moral values.
