On June 1, 2022, the government imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Marsabit County, which has now been extended for another 30 days.
According to a gazette notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i stated that the curfew, which runs from 6 pm to 6 am, aims to maintain security in the region.
CS Matiang'i emphasized that the region remains under threat, and any movement to and from the area must be cleared by security officials.
Under the order, public gatherings, processions, or movement are prohibited, except with written permission from the Inspector General of the National Police Service.
Since the start of Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit on May 2, 2022, the National Police Service has recovered 140 firearms and over 1,000 bullets of illicit weapons.
The operation aims to disarm the region and has been met with support from residents, who have been encouraged to voluntarily surrender arms.
