President Uhuru Kenyatta has come under fire for his decision to transfer some government agencies to the military, but he remains steadfast in his stance.
Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2022, the President said the move was necessary to address corruption and mismanagement in the affected agencies.
"We are a democratic country, and we will do what is right for Kenya," he said.
He added that the military has shown transparency in its operations, and he is confident that they will be able to turn around the struggling agencies.
One of the agencies that has been transferred to the military is the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), which was handed over to the military in 2020.
According to the President, the KMC was on the verge of collapse, but the military was able to turn it around and make it profitable within a year.
Another agency that has been transferred to the military is the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), which is responsible for managing the city's infrastructure.
