On July 17, 2019, a video surfaced of a 43-year-old man from Kibera, who has been eating cockroaches for four years, sparking mixed reactions in Kenya.

Geoffrey Lugai, the man in question, confessed to NTV during an interview that he enjoys eating the insects, which he believes have proteins.

"They have proteins and that's why I enjoy them," he said in the interview.

While some Kenyans laughed off the video, others begged him not to sell the roaches to people, citing concerns about food safety.

However, others pointed out that cockroaches are already consumed in various forms, including toothpaste, medicine, and cosmetics.
