On a rare display of humility, Nyamira Senatorial candidate Adams Mochenwa rode a donkey through the streets of Nyamira Town on his way to the IEBC offices on May 30, 2022. The 28-year-old candidate, who was seeking clearance to run for the seat, chose the unconventional mode of transport to communicate his leadership style to the residents of the county.
Heavy traffic and a crowd of motorcyclists and supporters barricaded the main road, but police officers managed to control the situation, allowing Mochenwa and his co-rider to pass through the county's main gate and reach the IEBC offices.
Speaking after being handed his nomination certificate by County Returning Officer Antony Njoroge, Mochenwa said, "This is akin to what Jesus did in Jerusalem as we read from the Bible. Riding on the donkey was a sign of humility, service and dedication to doing for the people of Nyamira what they have lacked for many years,"
Mochenwa was among four candidates who were lined up for clearance by the Commission on Monday, with incumbent Senator Okong'o Mogeni being the first to be cleared on Sunday.
