On May 31, 2022, Chief Justice Martha Koome took a significant step in the Mombasa gubernatorial race by constituting a three-judge bench to hear all petitions seeking to bar former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from the contest.
At least seven petitions have been filed against Sonko's candidature, and the judges have been tasked with recalling all the petitions to Nairobi for consolidation.
The three high court judges, David Majanja, Chacha Mwita, and Thande Mugure, will set a date for the hearing of the matter after the files have been consolidated.
