The Nairobi County Government has ordered the temporary closure of the Alchemist club in Parklands to allow for investigations into claims of racism.
The club's management has acknowledged lapses in its security personnel and has agreed to close its doors while a thorough investigation is conducted over the next few days.
According to the club's statement, the decision to close the club was made after careful consultations with the Nairobi County Government.
“After careful consultations with the Nairobi County Government. The Alchemist has agreed to close its doors while a thorough investigation is conducted over the next few days,” reads the statement.
The club has denied claims of racism, stating that the management has never had a policy of discrimination towards its clients.
“The Alchemist was founded to be a home to creatives, entrepreneurs and customers of all races and backgrounds. Our management has never had a policy of discrimination towards the people that have walked through our doors,” the statement reads.
The investigations will review the night of May 20th to determine if the guests in the viral video were denied entry and if there was a policy in place to have separate lines for guests.
