Kenya Airways, the country's national carrier, has taken a significant step towards digital payments by introducing a cashless system at two of its major airports.
As of June 1, 2022, passengers flying in and out of Moi International Airport in Mombasa and Kisumu International Airport will no longer be able to pay with cash.
Instead, payments will be accepted only through debit or credit cards, as well as online payment apps.
According to the airline, this move aims to support the growing trend of cashless transactions and ease cash collection and reconciliation issues at the airports.
Passengers can choose from alternative payment options, including Credit/Debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Union Pay) or M-pesa.
On a related note, Kenya Airways had previously suspended ticketing services in Malawi due to a looming dollar shortage.
