Body positivity has become a rallying cry for many, with celebrities like Lynda Nyangweso speaking out against the hurtful practice of body-shaming.

On July 18, 2019, Nyangweso shared a powerful video on her Instagram, recounting the painful experiences she faced due to her body shape.

“Somebody called me whale,” she said, her voice shaking as she recalled the hurtful comment. “The meanest comment I ever got was that I didn’t deserve to have a child because of how I looked.”

She also revealed that she would often eat in secret, fearing public ridicule. “When I was young, I would never eat in public. People would stare at me when I ate that I started eating in the toilet,” she confessed.

Despite the pain she endured, Nyangweso has chosen to rise above the negativity. “My sadness is for other girls who have to go through this,” she says. “If I was to meet a bully I would show kindness. Stop following people who make you feel bad about yourself. Protect your peace,” she concludes.

She is not alone in her fight against body-shaming. Other celebrities, such as Sanaipei Tande, Neomi Ng'ang'a, Joan Obwaka, and Nyangweso herself, have taken to social media to promote body positivity and self-acceptance.
