Published on July 18, 2019, a Nairobi man appeared in court for insulting his girlfriend after she refused to lend him a mobile phone to place a bet.
Anthony Kimani, accused of abusing his girlfriend Christine Njoki, pleaded not guilty to the offence before Kibera Senior resident Magistrate Esther Boke.
The court heard that Kimani insulted Ms Njoki on July 8 in Riruta, Kawangware, Nairobi County, embarrassing her in front of his friends.
Kimani then took her phone and attempted to escape before being arrested and escorted to the police station.
He claimed he was drunk and wanted the phone to place a bet, alleging that Ms Njoki had been 'playing hide and seek' with him daily by promising to give him the phone but never did.
Magistrate Boke released him on a bond of Sh 50,000 or a cash bail of Sh 10,000.
The matter will be mentioned on August 29 and heard on October 3.
