On May 31, 2022, the Council of Governors (CoG) sounded the alarm over the alarming rise in the sale of counterfeit cancer drugs to unsuspecting patients and the theft of drugs from public institutions.
According to reports, six staff members at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) were charged in court for stealing cancer drugs worth 4.6 million shillings. The stolen drugs were allegedly taken to a facility owned by a senior staff member.
The CoG, through its health committee chairperson Professor Anyang' Nyong'o, is now calling for a review of the management at KNH, citing the need for improved oversight and accountability.
