On May 31, 2022, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly concluded its investigation into the mobile clinics project, a multimillion-shilling initiative aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
However, the committee's verdict that the project was operational and successful was met with skepticism by journalists who conducted a spot check in various counties. The findings revealed that the containers meant for the project were either non-existent or not functioning as intended.
As a result, mothers in rural areas are missing out on antenatal clinics due to the long distances to hospitals, while children are not receiving essential childhood immunizations. People living with HIV/AIDS and diabetes are also missing out on lifesaving drugs.
The committee's decision to clear the project of any wrongdoing has raised questions about their motives and the extent of corruption involved. The people of Kenya deserve to know the truth behind this project and the reasons behind the committee's verdict.
It is imperative that the MPs provide concrete evidence of the project's success, or else, stakeholders on corruption must probe further to uncover the truth.
