On November 22, 2021, the government issued Gazette notice No. 11055, appointing Wangai Ndirangu as the chairperson of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) for a period of three years, effective November 12, 2019.
However, a lobby group, Sheria Mtaani na Shadrack Wambui, has moved to court to challenge the appointment, alleging that Eng Ndirangu is not qualified to serve in the KeNHA Board in any capacity.
The lobby group has pleaded with the court to temporarily suspend the appointment pending the determination of the case, citing the need for the court to intervene and uphold the principles of good governance, including the rule of law, transparency, and accountability.
According to the lobby group, the appointment of Eng Ndirangu did not meet constitutional values and procedures, which include fairness, inclusiveness, competitiveness, merit, and openness.
“Unless the court intervenes and grants the orders as sought, Ndirangu will continue being in glare abuse of principles of good governance to wit rule of law transparency and accountability among others”, urges the lobby group.
