Angela Okutoyi, Kenya's rising tennis star, has fallen short in her bid to make a mark at the Roland Garros (French Open Juniors) Singles Girls. The 2021 Africa Under-18 champion was defeated by Croatian Petra Marcinko in straight sets on Monday evening.

Okutoyi, who occupies position 66 on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior rankings, had a promising start to her campaign, stunning Belgian Amelie Van Impe 7-6(6), 6-4 in the first round on Sunday. However, she was unable to replicate this form against Marcinko, who dominated the two sets.

Okutoyi, who made history by reaching the third round of the Australian Open Juniors in January this year, has now 46 matches and registered 82 wins. Despite her early exit from the French Open, the African tennis sensation will shift her focus on preparing for another junior grand slam tournament in Wimbledon, the UK in July.
