On Sunday, May 29, 2022, a tragic road accident claimed the life of Rabai Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamoti. The incident occurred on the Mombasa-Malindi highway.
According to eyewitnesses, Kamoti's vehicle lost control after a lorry rammed into the rear of the vehicle, contradicting initial reports of a head-on collision.
Following the impact, the car ferrying the legislator rolled on the road before veering off and landing on a nearby ditch.

First responders who rushed to the scene stated that Kamoti was still alive, but they struggled to administer first aid due to the mangled wreck.
The police managed to pull the lawmaker and his driver out of the vehicle and rushed them to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital, where Kamoti was pronounced dead. His driver is recuperating in hospital.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga eulogized Kamoti as a wise leader and brother, promising to ensure the MP's family was well taken care of.
"He has left behind a wife and children. I will personally ensure that his children continue with their education until completion. We will pull together and ensure that we help you," Odinga stated.
ODM leaders were instructed to hold discussions with the MP's family to nominate a person to take over the ODM leadership mantle.
Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi mourned the MP, describing him as an admirable leader who would be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style.
"Kamoti will be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style which saw him earn admiration from many people beyond his constituency and also enabled him to achieve a lot for the people of Rabai Constituency," Kingi stated.
