On May 30, 2022, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives arrested six members of the Makueni County Assembly for fraudulently claiming and receiving Sh175,018.50 each in per diem for a trip to Dubai that had been privately sponsored.

The private trip, which took place from April 14 to 21, 2014, was fully sponsored by the then MP, Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba. However, upon return, the MCAs fraudulently claimed and received the money, which they were not entitled to.

The suspects, identified as Timothy Sirei Maneno, Bernard Wambua, Cosmas Mutunga, Bensley Mwania, John Muli, and Bernard Muthoka, will be charged alongside the then Clerk of Assembly, Edward Libendi, who is accused of facilitating the illegal payments.

They will be charged before the Makueni Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
