On December 3, 2021, a scam unfolded in Mombasa, where two individuals, Justine Murungi and Ruth Muthoni Macharia, posed as gas cylinder sellers.

According to the prosecution, the duo used Facebook to advertise their business, claiming to sell gas cylinders in the Makupa area.

They allegedly convinced Robert Isiche to purchase 60 gas cylinders from them, promising to deliver the goods once he had paid Sh100,000 via Mpesa.

However, the scam was uncovered when it was discovered that the duo had been using a fake identity to open an Mpesa account and had been using another person's identity to carry out the scam.

The two were arrested on April 22, 2022, and charged with the offense. They were released on a bond of Sh200,000 each.
