Kenyan midfielder Esse Akida has made history in Greece after helping AC PAOK win the 2021-2022 Greek Women's Super League title on Saturday.

PAOK thrashed Ergotelis 2-0 in the championship decider, with Maria Mitkou scoring both goals in the match.

Mitkou opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before doubling the lead from the penalty spot in the 90th minute. Akida had a chance to score the second goal in the 65th minute but her shot was cleared off the line.

Akida's impressive performance has seen her finish the season with 18 goals. She joined PAOK from Thika Queens in July 2021, attracted by the club's speed, discipline, and attacking prowess.

Before joining PAOK, Akida had been signed by Besiktas in February 2020 but did not play for the Turkish club due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking after joining PAOK, Akida had expressed her dream of playing for a top European club, and she believes that PAOK's qualification for the Champions League will give her the opportunity to achieve that goal.
