On May 30, 2022, Netflix became the latest Western company to pull out of Russia over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to a Netflix spokesperson, the company had announced its withdrawal from the Russian market in March, and had waited until the end of the current billing cycle before cutting off customers.
With 221.8 million subscribers worldwide at the end of 2021, Netflix is the world's leading streaming platform. However, it was a minor player in Russia, with the company losing 700,000 paid subscribers as a result of its withdrawal from the country.
Netflix is not alone in its decision to suspend operations or withdraw from Russia. A host of foreign companies have made similar announcements since the launch of Moscow's campaign in Ukraine on February 24.
