The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is intensifying efforts to recover public funds from several sitting and former Governors suspected of accumulating unexplained wealth during their tenure.
The anti-graft agency's Chief Executive Officer, Twalib Mbarak, stated that the EACC is preparing to file more suits for the forfeiture of stolen assets to the state.
One such case involves former Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu, who is accused of corruptly acquiring assets worth almost Sh2 billion.
According to the EACC, the assets were acquired through corrupt means and should therefore be repossessed.
Waititu, who was impeached in 2020 on accusations of abuse of office and other crimes, has been battling corruption charges.
He was previously charged with corruption in 2019, along with his wife Susan Wangari and two others, over the irregular award of Sh588 million contracts for road repairs.
They denied the charges, but the EACC remains committed to recovering public funds from those suspected of embezzlement.
