On May 29, 2022, Real Madrid lifted their fifth Champions League trophy, and captain Marcelo celebrated by announcing his departure from the club after 16 years.
Marcelo, a Brazilian defender, is the most decorated player in Real Madrid's history, with 25 trophies to his name, including the 2022 Champions League title won against Liverpool.
Although he has been a key player for the club, Marcelo has found his playing time limited in recent seasons, making only 12 appearances in the league during the 2021-22 campaign.
"It is a wonderful moment in my life, I close a cycle here, in the best club in the world," Marcelo said during Real Madrid's trophy celebrations in Madrid on Sunday.
Marcelo made over 500 appearances for Real Madrid, inheriting the captain's armband from Sergio Ramos after the Spaniard's move to Paris St Germain last year.
He made his debut for Real Madrid in January 2007, after joining from Fluminense.
