On a thrilling Saturday at the Eugene Diamond League in the United States, Kenyan athlete Faith Chepng'etich, 28, made a stunning comeback to win the 1500m Olympic title.
With a blistering time of 3:52.59, Chepng'etich left her competitors in awe, including Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay (3:54.21) and Canada's Gabriela Debues-Stafford (3:58.62), in a field of 17 top athletes, including reigning Birmingham champion Laura Muir of the UK, who finished 11th.
World champion Timothy Cheruiyot secured a third-place finish in the men's 1500m, while his fellow Kenyan Abel Kipsang took the top spot in the first two Diamond League 1500m events in Doha and Birmingham.
World champion Vincent Keter, who is under 20, finished 12th in the men's 1500m. Kenya's athletes made a strong showing in the 3000m steeplechase, with Celliphine Chespol and Jackline Chepkoech finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
However, Rosefline Chepng'etich did not finish the race.
Kenyan-born athletes Norah Jeruto (Kazakhstan) and Winfred Yavi (Bahrain) took the top two spots, respectively. Vincent Yator finished 10th in the men's 5000m.
