Evans Savai, a loyal servant of AFC Leopards, was remembered for his dedication to the club and its fans. He passed away on May 30, 2022 at Kenyatta National Hospital after a short illness.
As the chairman of Kawangware Branch, Savai played a crucial role in reviving the branch and was deeply loved by the fans. His funeral was attended by many football administrators and sports enthusiasts who came to pay their final respects.
Despite the challenges of the terrain in Kimeloi, Nandi County, where Savai was buried, the fans and the funeral committee led by Wycliffe Mwanzi worked tirelessly to give him a send-off fit for a hero. The fundraiser held at Bora Bora Hotel on May 21, 2022 was a huge success, with the attendance being simply fantastic.
The fans also showed their love and appreciation for Savai's family by raising Sh1.4 million, exceeding the target of Sh1 million required to cater for the hospital bills and burial.
