According to the law, registration is voluntary, and non-registration does not infringe on any rights. However, registration enables the creation of a record of authors and owners, which can be used as security to obtain a loan.
The registration process involves paying a fee of KSh 100 per person for individual works and KSh 500 for corporate entities. For software registration, the fee is KSh 100 per person and KSh 1000 for corporate entities.
The National Rights Registry (NRR) portal serves as the central repository for registering and viewing/download certificates for all types of works, including music, video, spoken word, and literary works.
