On January 30, 2022, the Northern Kenya Polo Championships came to a close at Timau Sports Club, providing a platform for low handicap players to showcase their skills and convince the National Handicap Committee (NHC) to promote them to the next level.
Three handicap -2 players, Bobby Kamani, Josephine Gauld, and Kelvin Jumba, featured in the Abadan Cup with the assistance of senior players, including Artea and Touchdown Forte, who have represented Kenya in international championships.
Artea, led by Jumba, won the Abadan Cup, while Cruiser, featuring Kamani and Gauld, won the Timau Challenge Cup. The Abadan Cup was won by Artea, who beat Cruiser 12-8 on goals-aggregate.
Artea's victory was a result of their consistent performance throughout the tournament, defeating Cruiser 7-2 on the first day, drawing 2-2 on the second day, and dismissing Cruiser 3-2 on the final day.
Despite losing, Kamani expressed his gratitude for the experience, stating, 'The event was a great learning experience though extremely challenging weekend. I’ve learnt an incredible amount this weekend but no amount of learning will ever be enough. I can only hope that with time and experience, I’ll be able to improve on my handicap.'
On the other hand, Touchdown Forte stopped Topik 5-4 to win the Timau Challenge Cup, while Amistra Extra beat Syngenta 4-3 in the Timau Stores Challenge Cup.
