On May 29, 2022, Makueni County witnessed a significant development in the run-up to the senatorial elections. Makueni County IEBC Manager Maurice Raria cleared Wiper Senatorial candidate Daniel Maanzo to vie for the senate seat.
Maanzo, the current Makueni MP, is among the first to be cleared in the two-day exercise carried out at Wote Technical Institute. The clearance process was thorough and rigorous, with IEBC officials ensuring that all details were correct.
Maanzo expressed his gratitude to the Wiper party for their efficiency, support, and presentation of his paperwork in a clear manner. He also highlighted his qualifications, stating that he has the right connections and experience to lobby for finances to come to the county through the Commission for Revenue Allocation.
Maanzo emphasized the importance of securing international funding to support projects in the county that will improve the livelihoods of the residents. He noted that there are many international partners ready to fund massive irrigation projects after the completion of the Thwake Multipurpose dam, which will provide enough water to Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos counties.
