A UK-based brewery, Pressure Drop, is among 60 companies participating in a six-month trial of a four-day workweek.
The trial, which is being billed as the world's largest so far, aims to help businesses reduce working hours without compromising salaries or income.
Similar trials have been conducted in Spain, Iceland, the United States, and Canada, with Australia and New Zealand set to begin theirs in August.
According to Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, a program manager at 4 Day Week Global, the trial will provide businesses with more time to work through difficulties, experiment with new processes, and gather data.
Pressure Drop, based in Tottenham Hale, hopes that the experiment will not only boost productivity but also improve the well-being of its employees, while reducing its carbon footprint.
Another trial participant, the Royal Society of Biology, aims to grant workers more autonomy over their time and working patterns.
Both companies expect that a reduced workweek will help them retain employees at a time when the UK is grappling with significant labour shortages and a record 1.3 million job openings.
