On Saturday, May 28, a tragic incident unfolded in Ivumbuni Village, Makueni County, where a 34-year-old farmhand, Charles Musembi Makau, was brutally killed by a mob.
Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan confirmed the incident, stating that the farmhand was suspected of defiling and murdering two minors, aged 7 and 10 years.
The victims were allegedly tricked by the farmhand when their grandmother, Anne Nduu, was away drawing water from a local river. Upon returning, she discovered the children missing and raised an alarm, leading to the farmhand's arrest.
When members of the public apprehended the suspect, he led them to his house, where the bodies of the minors were found under the bed.
Shocked by the news, Ms. Nduu collapsed and was rushed to hospital. The farmhand was then attacked by the mob, who stoned him to death and set his body on fire.
According to witnesses, the farmhand was new to the area but had a suspicious character, often smoking marijuana and consuming cheap alcohol.
Police officers took the three bodies to Tawa Hospital Mortuary for further investigation.
