Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has carved out a reputation as a vocal and unapologetic politician, unafraid to speak his mind and take on powerful figures.

As a first-term lawmaker, Gachagua has already made headlines for his sharp tongue and willingness to challenge those in power, including President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His comments have sparked controversy, with some accusing him of being dismissive of the concerns of his constituents. In December 2021, he used derogatory language to describe Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who had expressed support for Raila Odinga.

Gachagua has also been critical of Cotu boss Francis Atwoli, referring to him as a 'chained man' in January 2021. He has also faced allegations of graft, with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) filing an application to freeze some of his bank accounts.

Despite these challenges, Gachagua remains a key figure in the Kenya Kwanza movement, led by Deputy President William Ruto. He has been a vocal supporter of Ruto's economic model, which prioritizes small businesses and entrepreneurship.

As Ruto's running mate in the August 9 General Election, Gachagua has continued to speak his mind, sparking controversy with his comments on the economy and his constituents' expectations.
