Joshua Oigara, born in 1975 in Kisii, southwestern Kenya, comes from a family of schoolteachers and tea farmers. His parents, William and Diana Oigara, raised him at the Gesima Settlement Scheme in Borabu.
Oigara is a seasoned businessman, accountant, and corporate executive who served as the Group Chief Executive Officer of KCB Bank Group from January 1, 2013, to May 25, 2022.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi, majoring in Accounting, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. He also pursued his accounting certification at Strathmore University School of Accountancy, graduating in 1997.
Throughout his career, Oigara has attended various postgraduate management courses, including at INSEAD in Paris, France, Fuqua School of Business in Durham, North Carolina, and the London Business School, among others.
He is a certified public accountant (CPA) recognized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
At 37, Oigara became the youngest CEO of a publicly traded bank at the Nairobi Securities Exchange when he was appointed in November 2012 to replace outgoing CEO Martin Oduor-Otieno.
