On May 25, 2022, Mwangi Kiunjuri, the leader of the Service Party, made headlines by dumping Deputy President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance in a recent TV interview with Inooro TV.

During the interview, Kiunjuri advised the Mt. Kenya region to focus on the leadership qualities of the presidential contenders rather than the parties they represent.

"People from Laikipia County and the Mount Kenya region should elect leaders rather than parties. Choose the president you want and then look for leaders for the other seats," Kiunjuri said in a chat with Inooro TV.

Former Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue has been a strong supporter of Deputy President William Ruto's candidacy, but Kiunjuri expressed fears over being left out of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance's decision-making process.

He claimed that some factions were kept out of the loop and disregarded when it came to campaigning, which he suggested could endanger Ruto's ambition for the top job.

Kiunjuri also criticized the Kenya Kwanza Alliance's backing for the six-party vote call, stating that they were not speaking on behalf of the party's presidential candidate, Deputy President William Ruto.
