As the healthcare sector in Homa Bay County grapples with a three-week strike by healthcare workers demanding April salaries, the county's female representative, Gladys Wanga, has urged residents to refrain from blaming her for the crisis.
Wanga clarified that her office is not directly involved in the county's administration and therefore cannot be held responsible for addressing the sector's challenges.
She advised residents to separate her legislative role from those of other elected officials and county administrators, warning that misdirected blame could undermine her efforts to bring about change in the sector.
Wanga's statement comes as hospitals in the county remain closed for three weeks, with other services also affected. Healthcare workers are demanding payment of their April salaries, while other employees are also seeking their dues.
Despite the crisis, residents have been blaming local leaders for failing to address the issue. Wanga, however, clarified that she is not directly involved in the county's administration.
"I am being blamed for inciting the healthcare workers while they continue their strike. However, I am not responsible for the county's administration, and I am not the one who should be held accountable," Wanga said.
Wanga has vowed to bring about change in the healthcare sector if she is elected as the county's governor in the future.
