On July 17, 2019, a Migori court extended the detention of a 32-year-old man accused of impersonating a police officer for seven more days pending investigations.

The suspect, Antony Obare, was arrested on Tuesday by police officers around Huduma Centre in Migori after he reportedly attempted to con a nurse working at Migori Level Four Hospital.

According to Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge, the police officers, acting on a tip off from the said nurse, lured the imposter to Huduma Centre where they pounced on him.

Upon his arrest, Obare was found in possession of a fake police identification card purporting that he was a Senior Superintendent attached to the Criminal Investigations Department.

Mr. Nthenge stated that Criminal Investigation Officers are presently on the ground gathering more facts which will help in prosecuting the suspect.

The police boss further stated that they are also on the trail of two more people suspected to have been working closely with the imposter, including a cyber café operator alleged to have made the fake police identity card, who has since been arrested.
