On Friday, May 27, 2022, Chief Magistrate Pamela Achieng of the Ngong Law Courts ordered Sonko's lawyers to respond to the allegations within 21 days.
The court made the order after Sonko's lawyers, Mbichire & Co Advocates, requested an extension of time to prepare their defense against the allegations and the demands made by the woman.
The woman has been demanding Sh448,450 per month from Sonko to cater for the child's upkeep, including food, clothing, education, and other expenses.
She has also asked the court to order Sonko to pay Sh86,000 for the child's school fees and Sh30,450 for other expenses such as school uniforms, health insurance, and the child's upkeep.
Additionally, she has asked the court to order Sonko to pay a debt of Sh37,000.
Through her lawyer, Dan Okemwa, the woman claims that the child is a Form Two student who has not been attending school since April 26, 2022, when schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She claims that Sonko has been providing the child's basic needs, including education, health, food, shelter, entertainment, and medical care.
"Sonko and I are the child's biological parents," she said through her lawyer.
"The child has been emotionally traumatized because it does not understand why its father is accusing it. Moreover, the child has been bullied and humiliated at school because of its name, which has affected its mental health and it wants to be transferred to a different school," she added.
She claims that they met Sonko in 1999 and started dating soon after. They had a child together on April 17, 2007.
