Kenya Sevens' struggles at the World Rugby Seven Series continued at the London Sevens, where they suffered two defeats and were eliminated from the Main Cup quarterfinals.
Shujaa, Kenya's national sevens team, faced off against Ireland in their opening Group B match, ultimately losing 17-14. The team's fate was sealed when they were thrashed 26-0 by World Sevens Series leaders Argentina.
Shujaa's first match against Ireland was a closely contested affair, with the Irish taking a 5-0 lead at halftime. However, Kenya's Edmund Anya restored parity early in the second half, and Anthony Omondi's conversion gave them a 7-5 lead.
Despite their efforts, the Irish regained the lead after Jordon Conroy scored a try, and Mark Roche's conversion put them ahead 12-5. Arcadius Khwesa scored a try for Kenya with seconds left on the clock, but the Irish capitalized on a penalty to score the winning try through Terry Kennedy.
Shujaa head coach Damian McGrath acknowledged that there is still much work to be done to get Kenya back to its former level. 'We have been giving away cheap possession and dropping the ball a lot, and first we need to work on retaining our possession. It is still a long way to go and work in progress,' he said.
