On May 28, 2022, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i called for a peaceful campaign period ahead of the August 9th General Elections, addressing the Seventh Day Adventist faithful of Kenyerere SDA in Kisii County.

He cautioned politicians against using the elections as an excuse to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines, instead urging them to embrace peace and unity.

Similar sentiments were echoed by the President during the national prayer breakfast, where he called for unity during campaigns and a peaceful transition of power after the elections.

Matiang'i also assured citizens that the government is committed to delivering a free and fair election, with measures in place to curb insecurity and maintain order during the campaigns.
