On July 17, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto clarified the purpose of Jubilee party, stating it was formed to unite Kenyans, not to win elections.
Speaking in Kajiado, Ruto emphasized that Jubilee was not formed to win elections or take power, but to bring Kenyans together and ensure development.
"Hatukuunda chama cha Jubilee kushinda uchaguzi na kuchukua serikali, tuliunda Jubilee ili kuunganisha Wakenya, kumaliza siasa za mgawanyiko na ukabila," Ruto said.
However, the party has been plagued by internal conflicts, with two factions emerging, one supporting Ruto and the other opposing him.
The conflicts have been ongoing since President Uhuru Kenyatta made a deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga on March 9, 2018.
Before the conflicts, Jubilee supporters had agreed that President Kenyatta would lead the party for 10 years, with Ruto as his deputy for the same period.
However, it now seems that Kenyatta may change his stance in 2022, with Ruto's supporters saying he will not support the President's decision.
